Nothing Sounds Sweeter Than This
Parents in the Stone Age, like Gen X, did not have cell phones.
When my sons were babies, phones weren’t around to record life’s everyday moments, some of which are we treasure. Sadly, our videos were filmed using now-obsolete technology. I think people reading this will fall into one of two categories: Those who sympathize because they are in a similar situation, or those who don’t believe me and cannot comprehend what I’m saying.
Little Johnny’s bomber jacket
Since we were unable to watch our tapes, my husband mailed them to Legacy for digitization. (not an affiliate link. Just sharing.) Even though I couldn’t access the tapes in their non-digitized state, I didn’t want to let them go. What if they get lost in the mail? What if we never got them back? I noticed that feeling extends to their baby blankets and outfits I’ve collected over the years. For example, Johnny’s bomber jacket, which he wore when he was three. I admit it, I will never part with that little jacket.
Sometimes, I don’t want to let go of their entire childhoods. Yet most of the time, I’ve enjoyed the real-life journey my children have chosen to take. They have grown into the most wonderful people. And the older ones are married, bringing two more to our tribe.
The tapes made it home, sweet home
The tapes made it home, safe and sound. My husband and I binge-watched them attentively. I was surprised and glued to every part of our lives as they passed before me. Some tapes started at the true beginning of every boy’s childhood, the day they were born.
A quick video of joy for you.
This quick video from my youngest son is magic, capturing moments of pure joy. Every time I hear the sound of his giggle, it causes me to smile and laugh, too.
Wishing you a joyful day!
