Lauren Daigle “Thank God I Do”

#MusicMonday “Thank God I Do” by Lauren Daigle

I still don’t know much about Contemporary Christian music, but when Lauren Daigle is involved, I’m excited to find more great musicians and singers. My family introduced me to “Thank God I Do,” and that makes the song even more special to me.

A fire accident, pain, fear, and healing

My cousin Toni and her son-in-law shared several songs with me, including “Thank God I Do.” Over the past year, they went through a terrible fire accident involving their children, which brought a lot of pain, fear, and eventually, healing on many levels. When I listen to Lauren Daigle’s “Thank God I Do,” I think it’s beautiful because it recognizes life’s hardest moments, which my Cousin and son-in-laws young family has experienced this year. The lyrics show both the raw lows and joyful highs, and that’s what draws me to Lauren’s music. She admits that there are things you might not see coming. Who do you trust and ask for help?

I appreciate how she talks about being at her lowest, feeling darkness, fear, and like she’s “falling off the edge.” I can relate and when I feel that way I call it “living in the midnight of my mind.” However, the song reminds me hard times are only one part of life, and then she sings about finding safety and grace with God.

Perserverance and trust in God

My favorite part is when she says she doesn’t know who she would be without God. This bridge feels introspective, connecting what she’s been through with where God has taken her. Her positive outlook makes the song feel hopeful, even after a tough beginning.

Lauren’s music, for example, both “You Say” and “Thank God I Do,” is full of themes like perseverance, hope, and faith. As a Christian artist, she shares her beliefs while also connecting with people beyond the usual Christian music crowd, including me. She’s open about the tough times we all go through, and her songs help lift us.

Next, I’m going to listen to and add to my playlist: “If It Was Up To Me” by Ben Fuller and Carrie Underwood and MercyMe’s “It Is Well.” Maybe I’ll be able to suggest a song or two soon.
